TAGBILARAN CITY — Catholics on Wednesday trooped to churches in celebration of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Bishop Abet Uy of the Diocese of Tagbilaran reminded the people that the grace of God is more beautiful than sin.

“What is the most dangerous virus? Is it COVID-19? No. It’s not. The most dangerous virus is the virus of sin,” the prelate said in his homily during the Pontifical Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Baclayon town on Wednesday, December 8.

The prelate said the COVID-19 virus could affect people physically. But sin would affect both the body and soul, he said.

“In order to be protected from COVID-19, we were vaccinated. In the same manner, to be protected from sin, we were baptized and nourished by the different sacraments of the Church,” he said.

Uy told devotees that the Immaculate Conception reminds everyone that “sin is ugly, and that the grace of God is beautiful.”

He encouraged the people to look up to Mary in times of uncertainty and adversity.

“Let us choose what is good even if only a few people are doing it. An action is good even if nobody is doing it. And evil is wrong even if everybody is doing it,” he said.
