Ospital ng Makati now has zero COVID-19 cases — Mayor Binay

MANILA, Philippines — The Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) now has zero cases of COVID-19, Mayor Abby Binay announced on Wednesday.

Binay noted that the city-run hospital has not logged any COVID cases since November 24.

“Earlier this month, we had 54 patients with COVID-like symptoms at OsMak. Fortunately, they all tested negative after undergoing RT-PCR tests. Therefore, we have zero COVID cases at OsMak,” she said in a statement.

Recently, Makati Medical Center medical director Dr. Saturnino Javier confirmed that their health facility has a zero-COVID-patient census for the first time in 20 months since March 2020.

To date, Makati is low risk for COVID-19 and is among the highly urbanized cities that achieved herd immunity.

Binay attributed the low coronavirus infections to the local government’s high inoculation rate, availability of COVID-19 testing, surveillance, and early isolation or quarantine of suspected COVID-19 patients, and strict implementation of minimum public health standards.

However, the mayor reminded the public to continue adhering to health protocols, noting the threat of the Omicron variant.

“Even if we are now under the low-risk classification, we should remain vigilant. It may only be a matter of time before the Omicron variant makes its way to our country. We must continue to strictly observe public health standards like wearing face masks and keeping a one-meter distance from another person,” the local executive said.
