MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Wednesday announced that the jail facilities under its supervision are now free from COVID-19.

“We would like to announce that as of this minute, wala na po tayong kaso ng [we do not have any case of] COVID sa [in] BJMP both sa ating mga [in our] PDL [persons deprived of liberty] at [and] personnel,” the agency said in a statement.

The facilities under the jurisdiction of BJMP are regional and city jails all over the country.

“We are hoping na sana magtuloy tuloy na po ito [that this will continue],” it added.

BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral reminded personnel to not be complacent and pursue the implementation of health and security protocols in the office and facilities to ensure the welfare of the PDLs.

The bureau noted that the Department of Health’s Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, then Reintegrate strategy “is an effective guide” in their COVID-19 management.

It also lauded the personnel for their efforts to tend to COVID-19 patients amid the pandemic.

“We are grateful to the men and women of the BJMP for their devotion to duty despite prolonged hours of work since we started the jail lockdown last year and for their commitment to take care of our COVID19 patients in our LIGTAS COVID Centers and isolation facilities,” the agency said.
