OLONGAPO CITY — At least five more patients in this city have recovered from COVID-19, further bringing down to six its number of active cases, local data showed on Sunday, Dec. 5.

The city did not also record an additional COVID-19 case on the same day, keeping its tally at 5,456 infections since the pandemic struck last year.

Officials said the downward trend in COVID-19 cases could be linked to the city’s high vaccination rate, which already reached at least 60 percent of the target eligible population.

The city needs to inoculate 182,000 residents or 70 percent of its 260, 000-population to achieve herd immunity.

On Friday (Dec. 10), the city will continue to administer booster shots to medical frontliners, targeting at least 1,300 more..

Vaccination of the rest of the city’s population is still ongoing on a regular basis at two of the main venues in the city. INQ
