ZAMBOANGA CITY—Mayor Darussalam Saguindilan Lajid of Basilan province’s Al Barka town and his bodyguard died on their way to the hospital after four still unidentified gunmen shot them and Akbar Mayor Alih Awal Sali in Barangay Baliwasan in this city at 8:31 a.m., Monday, Dec. 6.
Lt. Agnes Miro, Zamboanga City police spokesperson, said Lahid died while Sali was in critical condition.
The two mayors were walking towards a mosque along the Baliwasan seaside when four unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen shot them, using caliber .45 pistols.
The attackers fled towards the inner portion of the Baliwasan seaside after hitting their victims, who were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
