BJMP: Only one active COVID-19 case in jails

MANILA, Philippines — With only one active COVID-19 case among persons deprived of liberty (PDL) and no new case in eight days, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is looking to allow noncontact visits in its detention facilities soon.

The pandemic had prompted the BJMP to limit PDL families to virtual visits or e-dalaw.

“We would like to announce that as of this minute, we only have one remaining active COVID-19 case in our jail,” Chief Inspector Xavier Solda, spokesperson for the BJMP told a virtual press briefing on Sunday.

“This is also the eighth day that we have not had a new COVID-19 case among our PDL,” he added.
