Jails bureau to get 30,000 vaccine doses

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has been allotted at least 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for prisoners.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said on Thursday that the National Task Force against COVID-19 committed to deliver the vaccines directly to the prison facilities in two to three days.

As of Nov. 19, according to BuCor, 37,513 or 77 percent of the total 48,539 prisoners in seven prison facilities have at least been partially vaccinated against COVID-19.

Bucor said 9,359 prisoners had been fully vaccinated while 28,286 had so far gotten only the first dose.

BuCor said 22,134 prisoners at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City had been vaccinated; 3,100 at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City; 790 at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro; 1,716 prisoners at the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City; 1,946 at the Leyte Regional Prison in Southern Leyte; 6,122 at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Davao del Norte; and 1,705 at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Palawan. —DONA Z.
