Couple slain, teen injured in Davao Sur gun attack

DIGOS CITY––A couple was killed while a teenage girl was injured in a gun attack Wednesday in Hagonoy town, Davao del Sur.
Lt. Joselito Cortes, acting Hagonoy police chief, identified the victims as Jonathan Buenaflor, 45, of Barangay New Murcia, Matanao town, and his live-in partner Lilibeth Brieta, 41, of Barangay Blocon, Magsaysay town.
Cortes said the victims were shot at close range and died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
Witnesses said two assailants fled the scene after the shooting around 6 p.m. as the victims sprawled dead on the concrete pavement outside a grocery store in Crossing Tologan, Barangay Guihing.
A stray bullet hit the shoulder of the shopkeeper’s daughter. She was rushed to the Davao del Sur provincial hospital for treatment.
Staff Sergeant Loyd Camporedondo, the police officer-on-case, said they were still establishing the background of the victims so they could evaluate the possible motives of the killing and sought more witness accounts that could help identify the attackers.
