Quezon province logs zero COVID-19 case

LUCENA CITY––Quezon province logged zero COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, health authorities said.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), in its 5 p.m. bulletin on Dec. 1, recorded no new infected individuals and mortality from the dreaded illness.

The IPHO also listed two recoveries from Pitogo town and another one in Atimonan.

The IPHO has been recording a continuous drop in the number of new infections in the province, which is now under the less stringent Alert Level 2 until Dec. 15.

Last month, the IPHO recorded 211 new COVID-19 patients. The IPHO logged 2,115 COVID-19 cases in October and 5,342 in September.

The recorded active cases in Quezon have also declined to 83 as of Wednesday, Dec. 1, from the highest single-day tally of 2,570 on Sept. 21.

Lucena City, Quezon’s capital, topped the list with 44 active virus carriers from 571 recorded on Oct. 14.

Even with the decline in COVID-19 cases, Gov. Danilo Suarez urged residents to remain vigilant and continue the relentless campaign to control, if not end, the pandemic’s grip on the province.

“Let us all maintain discipline by observing all safety protocols to prevent the resurgence of new cases,” he said.

At least 18 of 41 municipalities in Quezon are now free from COVID-19.

Considered COVID-19-free are San Andres, Plaridel, Atimonan, Agdangan, General Nakar, Sampaloc, Mulanay, San Francisco, Pitogo, Macalelon, Tagkawayan, Infanta, Patnanungan, Alabat, Quezon, Burdeos, Jomalig, and Polillio towns.

Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or died.
