MANILA, Philippines — Over 1.6 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine were delivered to the Philippines on Wednesday.

The doses, totaling 1,632,900, were donated by the French government, the National Task Force against COVID-19 said.

The vaccine doses arrived just as the government started the third day of its massive national COVID-19 vaccination drive.

It aimed to inoculate nine million individuals against the severe respiratory illness.

As of Nov. 30, the government was able to vaccinate over five million individuals against COVID-19. The vaccination drive started on Nov. 29 and ended on Dec. 1.
