Coronavirus deaths total 48,712 with 167 more fatalities as of Dec 1

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 167 more coronavirus-related deaths, pushing the tally of COVID-19 fatalities to 48,712 as of Wednesday.

According to DOH data, the current death toll account for 1.72 percent of all 2,833,038 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country since 2020. Meanwhile, the country’s recovery rate stood at 97.7 percent as 2,768,999 coronavirus patients were able to survive the disease.

While new COVID-19 cases continue to go down, additional deaths being reflected in the DOH’s case bulletin remain high. But the DOH earlier explained that these deaths include those that happened in the previous months.

In November alone, a total of 5,332 deaths were reported by the DOH, for an average of 177 deaths being logged per day.

The country still has 15,327 active COVID-19 cases of the disease, including the 500 new cases the DOH reported on Wednesday.

Of the active cases, 51.8 percent were either mild or asymptomatic. Data from DOH showed that 756 patients are asymptomatic, 7,183 have mild cases, 3,832 have moderate infections, 2,489 were under severe condition, and 1,067 were under critical status.

Meanwhile, on hospitalization, the DOH reported also on Wednesday that 27 percent of intensive care unit beds for critical and severe COVID-19 patients were still occupied, while 26 percent of isolation beds and 15 percent of ward beds and ventilators remain utilized.
