MANILA, Philippines — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) has added more courses to its online training platform as part of its efforts to expand the program.

According to the agency, the additional courses bring to 114 the total number of courses in its Tesda Online Program (TOP) which offers free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the technical education and skills development of the Filipino workforce.

Tesda Secretary Isidro Lapeña urged the public, especially those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, to try enrolling in TOP.

“I invite the public, especially those who have lost their jobs or those trying to venture into a new livelihood, to try enrolling in our online classes,” Lapeña said in a statement.

“This is offered for free. I’m sure you can find a course from the many options that will best suit your need[s],” he added.

According to Tesda, TOP so far has 3,443,530 registered users.  TOP was launched in 2012.

The agency explained they saw an increase in the number of enrollees after the government imposed travel restrictions due to COVID-19 on March 16, 2020. At the time, Tesda noted, 2,006,923 individuals registered in TOP’s various courses.

A certificate of completion was given to all who have finished a course. However, those who wish to receive a National Certificate must undergo competency assessment in Tesda-accredited assessment centers.
