MANILA, Philippines — Sorsogon on Monday dispatched a sea ambulance to help in the vaccination drive among residents living along the coastal areas during the first day of the nationwide Bayanihan, Bakunahan.

According to Sorsogon Gov. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, the sea ambulance was procured by the provincial government to provide medical and emergency response to citizens living the coastal barangays of the province.

“Ating gagamitin ang bagong sea ambulance simula ngayong araw upang mabakunahan ang ating mga kababayan na nasa mga coastal barangays,” Escudero said.

“Malaking bagay sa kanila na sa halip na pumunta pa sa mga vaccination centers sa bayan, ang vaccination team ang pupunta sa kanila upang mabigyan sila ng mga bakuna laban sa COVID-19,” he added.

(It is a big help for them that instead of going to the vaccination centers in town, the vaccination team will go to them to give them vaccines against COVID-19.)

The governor and senatorial aspirant also said that with the sea ambulance serving as added reinforcement, the province will be able to achieve its target to vaccinate at least 53,586 of its citizens daily from its 14 municipalities and one city during the three-day inoculation campaign.

The government plans to vaccinate nine million people in this program and three million each day. As of writing, a total of 547,628 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the said drive.

Escudero himself expressed confidence that the province will be able to achieve its target.

“As of last week, Sorsogon has already vaccinated 60 percent of its target population or equivalent to some 356,433 individuals. We will reach 65% full vaccination of our population by mid-December since we started getting our ‘fair share’ of vaccines in October, or in less than three months,” he said.
