MANILA, Philippines — Scattered rain showers will affect several parts of the country due to the prevailing weather systems on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the shear line, easterlies, and intertropical convergence zone, the state weather bureau said in its earl morning update.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, and Abra.

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.

Warning: Rough seas up North!

Pagasa likewise raised a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

“Para naman sa mga papalaot ngayong araw lalo ‘yung mga gumagamit ng maliliit na sasakyang pandagat, iwasan ang pagpalaot sa mga areas kung saan nakataas ang ating gale warning,” Pagasa weather specialist Rob Gile said.

(Sea travel is not advised in areas with gale warnings, especially those using small vessels.)

“Maaari kasing umabot hanggang 5.5 meters ang taas ng pag-alon sa mga nasabing mga baybayin at ito’y peligroso lalo sa gumagamit ng maliliit na sasakyang pandagat,” he added.

(Waves may reach up to 5.5 meters in the said areas and this is dangerous especially for those with small vessels.)
