MANILA, Philippines — The new law requiring motorists to undergo a comprehensive driver’s education program (CDE) will not entail an added cost.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) clarified that the learning materials and evaluation test for license renewal would be available for free.
The LTO said the CDE “should not result in additional expense or inconvenience” to drivers.
Under the new policy, LTO chief and Assistant Transportation Secretary Edgar Galvante said drivers who will renew their licenses have to study the CDE modules “intended to retool our drivers with the [goal] of keeping the road safe for everyone.”
Drivers will then have to take and pass a 25-question evaluation test to get their CDE certificate of completion, which is now a requirement for license renewal.
But the LTO clarified that the CDE materials, including learning modules, a five-hour program of video and slide presentations and the evaluation test, can be accessed for free at the LTO Land Transportation Management System portal via portal@lto.gov.ph. LTO field offices also offer free in-person CDE seminars and exams.
