More than 1.7 million UK-donated AstraZeneca vaccine doses arrive in PH

MANILA, Philippines — More than 1.7 million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Saturday.

The 1,746,160 AstraZeneca vaccine doses were donated by the government of the United Kingdom through the COVAX facility, according to the National Taskforce Against COVID-19 (NTF).

The delivered vaccine doses bring the total number of vaccine doses donated by the UK this week to 5.2 million, according to British Embassy Deputy Head of Mission Alastair Walton Totty.

A total of 3,191,040 AstraZeneca doses from the UK also arrived on Thursday and another 288,000 doses on Friday.

The delivery came just in time for the government’s 3-day national vaccination drive from November 29 to December 1.

As of Friday, about 34,963,067 people have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while 137,801 vaccinees have received their booster shots, according to the NTF.
