PH logs 899 new COVID-19 cases; caseload now at 2,831,177 — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 899 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the caseload to 2,831,177.

Of the number, only 17,052 or 0.6 percent are still tagged as “active cases,” with most only having mild or no symptoms at 55.9 percent.

The DOH said 22.77 percent of the active cases have moderate symptoms, 15 percent are severe, and 6.3 percent are in critical condition.

The total number of recoveries is now at 2,765,920 or 97.7 percent of all cases after 1,667 new recoveries were reported on Saturday.

There are also 188 new deaths, bringing the country’s COVID-19 death toll total to 48,205, or 1.70 percent of all cases.

Meanwhile, the DOH said seven duplicates — all recoveries — were removed from the total case count on Saturday. There are also 102 cases, including 101 recoveries, that were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count; 156 cases that were also previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said the country’s current positivity rate is now at 2.4 percent, which is well within the World Health Organization’s positivity rate of 5 percent.

Meanwhile, global COVID-19 infection now stands at 260.8 million including 5.1 million deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
