MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon, which Filipino term is “amihan,” would continue to affect northern and central Luzon and bring cloudy weather and rain over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

In its 4 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also said that a shear line, or the tail end of a frontal system, would cause scattered rains with lightning and thunder in mainland Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora while an intertropical convergence zone or ITCZ would influence weather in Mindanao and the rain it would bring will extend over Sorsogon, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao region.

A gale warning was then raised over the seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur. La Union, and Pangasinan with Pagasa anticipating waves to reach as high as 4.5 meters.

Weather specialist Ana Clauren further said that Metro Manila would likely see rain Wednesday night and that the nation’s capital region and the rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies due to the ITCZ.

Nevertheless, she added, Metro Manila and the rest of the country would experience generally fair weather on Thursday.

Clauren also said in Pagasa’s latest weather forecast that no weather disturbance such as a low-pressure area may be expected to enter the country in the next two to three days.
