DUMAGUETE CITY — The local government of La Libertad town in Negros Oriental has organized a free bike ride to its local residents amid soaring fuel prices.
Mayor Emmanuel Iway said the local government of La Libertad is purchasing Japan-surplus bicycles and stationing them at the different barangays in town as alternatives to motorized vehicles.
Bikes are stationed in the Barangay Halls of San Jose, Cantupa, South and North Poblacion, Martilo, Pisong, Solongon, Manghulyawon, and Talayong.
He said aside from addressing the soaring prices of gasoline, they are also happy to introduce to the public a healthy and environmentally-friendly alternative.
According to Iway, the project also aims to help reduce pollution brought by motorized vehicles.
“I encourage the public to avail of our services so we can help the community achieve environmentally-friendly transportation” he said.
Those who wanted to avail of the free bike ride have to go to their barangays and bring an identification card. They have to return the bike after using it.
