2 SAF troopers killed in encounter with NPA in Northern Samar

TACLOBAN CITY — Two troopers of the Special Action Force (SAF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were killed in an encounter with members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Gamay town, Northern Samar on Saturday morning.

The fatalities were identified as Patrolmen Franklin Marquez and Jimmy Caraggayan.

The SAF personnel led by Lt.Mark Christian Arbis were in the area as part of their security operations.

The still undetermined number of rebels attacked the policemen and used improvised explosive devices which resulted in the death of two SAF members.

Four others were wounded: Lt. Jayson Banganan, Lt. Jay-R Rimorin, and Patrolmen Roben Ringor and Cristobal Henacha.

Insurgency remains to be active in Gamay and in other parts of Northern Samar.
