MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has recorded a 1-million increase of enrolled students under basic education, according to the agency’s learner information system.

The enrollment for this year reached 27,232,095, or 3.83 percent higher than the record last school year.

Compared to last year’s trend on the transfer of learners, there was a net migration from public to private schools, the DepEd said.

A total of 612,140 learners transferred from public to private schools and more than 305,513 transferred from private to public—a net transfer of 306,627. —JANE BAUTISTA
