LUCENA CITY––Two alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members were killed in an encounter Wednesday with Army soldiers in Sampaloc town in Quezon province, police said.

The Sampaloc police reported Thursday that troops from the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion chanced upon five suspected NPA rebels in Barangay Taquico at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday that led to a firefight.

The police claimed that two communist guerrillas were killed in the clash while three others escaped, leaving behind the bodies of their slain comrades.
