Lorenzana tests positive for coronavirus a day after attending Senate budget hearing
MANILA, Philippines — Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana has tested positive for coronavirus, a day after he physically attended the Senate plenary debates on his agency’s 2022 budget.
Lorenzana confirmed this in a text message to INQUIRER.net on Wednesday.
“The result came out this morning from a test yesterday afternoon after the Senate hearing,” he said.
“I am asymptomatic,” he told reporters in a separate message, adding he has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
“I’ll observe myself for several days, after that I’ll have another swab,” Lorenzana added.

Article continues after this advertisement“We just found out through the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms that the good Secretary of National Defense is positive,” Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri told his colleagues during Wednesday’s budget deliberations.
“We were quite exposed yesterday,” Zubiri added.
