MANILA, Philippines — The number of areas in Metro Manila placed under granular lockdown has dropped to just 14, affecting only 44 households, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Tuesday.

In a taped briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte aired Tuesday morning, Año said a total of 399 areas across the country are under granular lockdown as of Nov. 13.

This is affecting a total of 443 households or 1,147 individuals, he added.

The number of areas under granular lockdown is down from the 413 areas recorded last week.

“Ibig sabihin talagang bumababa ang ating mga numero,” Año said.

(This means our COVID-19 cases are really decreasing.)

The government is conducting a phased nationwide rollout of its five-tier alert level system as President Rodrigo Duterte approved its implementation across the country.

This new system shifted the focus from community-wide quarantine restrictions to granular lockdowns.

Metro Manila is currently under Alert Level 2 until Nov. 21.
