DOH reports 128 new COVID-19 deaths; death toll rises to 45,709

MANILA, Philippines — Amid decreasing active cases of COVID-19, an additional 128 deaths were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, further increasing the death toll to 45,709.

The total deaths currently account for 1.62 percent of the 2,818,511 confirmed infections of the virus in the country. It also makes up 0.90 percent of the total deaths worldwide.

According to Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, global deaths are currently at 5,100,629 while total infections worldwide currently sit at 253,334,682.

Meanwhile, total current active infections in the country further decreased to 27,025 after total recoveries increased to 2,745,777.

The DOH also continues to record a low health care utilization rate nationwide, with only 35 percent of ICU beds, 28 percent of isolation beds, 21 percent of ward beds, and 22 percent of ventilators currently in use during the pandemic.

The same goes for Metro Manila where occupied ICU beds are currently at 30 percent, isolation beds at 26 percent, ward beds at 24 percent and 23 percent for ventilators.
