Gordon, Lacson on capture of Dargani siblings: Davao City not safe haven for them

MANILA, Philippines — The capture of Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. executives Twinkle Dargani and her brother Mohit Dargani in Davao City only proves that the city is not a “safe haven” for them, supposedly to flee the country “from the backdoor”, Senators Panfilo Lacson and Richard Gordon said on Monday.

The Dargani siblings were arrested in Davao City, President Rodrigo Duterte’s home province, on Sunday afternoon aboard a plane bound for Kuala Lumpur.

“Kung inaakala ng magkapatid na Dargani na safe haven ang Davao City, just like what Michael Yang and Christopher Lao are thinking, they should think again. There is no such thing as safe haven on earth,” Lacson said in a text message to reporters.

(If the Dargani siblings think Davao City is a safe haven, just like what Michael Yang and Christopher Lao are thinking, they should think again. There is no such thing as safe haven on earth.)

“Glad they captured them. Proves they are really fleeing from the backdoor from Davao City. Speaks volumes,” Gordon said in a separate text message.

The Dargani siblings had been cited for contempt and ordered detained in the Senate for their “refusal” to submit documents earlier subpoenaed by the blue ribbon committee. They had since apparently gone into hiding.

Pharmally is currently at the center of the blue ribbon committee’s investigation of the purchase of allegedly overpriced medical supplies during the pandemic.

Gordon said “evasion and flight is always interpreted as clear signs of guilt.”

“People cannot doubt the Senate commitment for truth and justice. People will be convinced that crimes were committed from these events. Evasion has always been the strategy,” he added.

The siblings are currently under custody of the Senate.
