MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is studying the possible reimposition of the number coding scheme as the quarantine restriction eases in Metro Manila.
Benhur Abalos, chair of the MMDA, said traffic speed in Metro Manila was slower now compared to the recorded speed when the National Capital Region was placed on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
He noted that on alert level 2, travel speed along Edsa from Roxas Boulevard to Monumento was at 19 kilometers per hour.
During the ECQ, travel speed along this stretch was 23 kph. “If we recorded the prepandemic speed of 11 kph, it is possible that we shall reimplement the number coding scheme but we are monitoring the traffic volume count and the speed every day,” Abalos said. —Mariejo S. Ramos
