MANILA, Philippines — Half of adult Filipinos approve of the government’s response to prevent the spread of COVID-19, based on a survey from independent analytics group OCTA Research released on Thursday.

“Fifty percent of adult Filipinos ‘approve’ of the national government’s response against the COVID-19 pandemic. This is a 30 percent drop from last July,” OCTA Research fellow Ranjit Rye said.

Based on the survey results released by OCTA in an online media forum, 17 percent of adult Filipinos “truly” approve of the COVID-19 response, lower than the 30 percent in July. Meanwhile, 33 percent “somewhat approve,” also lower by 50 percent in July.

In July, 13 percent “can’t say if [they] approve or disapprove,” six percent “somewhat disapprove,” and one percent “truly disapprove” of the government’s pandemic efforts.

“The survey was conducted last September 11 to 16 during the peak of the surge in the NCR (National Capital Region). We expect that the ratings for the government’s response to COVID-19 to improve in the last quarter,” Rye noted.

A total of 1,200 individuals responded to the survey, with a margin of error at ±3 percent.
