MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has nominated lawyer Rey Bulay as new commissioner of the Commission on Elections, Malacañang confirmed on Thursday.
Bulay was nominated to the poll body for a term lasting until Feb. 2, 2027, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.
“We are confident that Atty. Bulay will ensure the conduct of honest, orderly, credible and peaceful elections,” he said in a statement.
Prior to the post, Bulay served as Manila’s chief prosecutor.
He is also a former official of the Presidential Commission on Good Governance (PCGG).
Bulay was Muntinlupa City councilor from 1988 to 1997 and from 2007 to 2010. He also became president of the Councilors League of the Philippines.
