2 suspected rebels nabbed in Masbate checkpoint

LEGAZPI CITY––Two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested Wednesday in a checkpoint in Mandaon town in Masbate, police said Thursday.

Major Nicolas Malipot Jr., chief of the Mandaon police, reported that Albert Manlapas, 29, and Lindo Galvan, 28, of Barangay Cabitan of the town, were NPA members operating under “Ka Star.”

Malipot said the suspects, while onboard a motorcycle, were flagged down and arrested in Barangay Nailaban around 10 p.m.

The police claimed the rebels were in the area to conduct extortion and robbery hold-up activities.

The police recovered a caliber .38 revolver with three live bullets, a caliber 22 black widow revolver with five bullets, a caliber .38 pistol with three bullets, and three bladed weapons.
