TACLOBAN CITY—An alleged New People’s Army (NPA) member in Southern Leyte surrendered to the military on Nov. 5.
Nap (real name withheld) said he wanted to live a normal life.
He said the NPA in Bontoc town in Southern Leyte recruited him in 2017.
Nap said he was assigned to do errands, procure supplies for the rebel group, and inform them if soldiers came to the village.
Nap handed over medical equipment and personal belongings to the government troops.
Lt.Col. Ernesto Dela Rosa Jr., commanding officer of the 14th Infantry Battalion, based in Mahaplag, Leyte, said the surrender of Nap was a result of the government campaign for NPA members and sympathizers to return to the fold of the law.
Brigadier General Zosimo Oliveros, the commanding officer of the 802nd IB, commended the troops of the 14 IB and the municipal task force of Bontoc for their sustained efforts to encourage rebel members and sympathizers to surrender.
