1,299 illegal firearms seized in various cop operations in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY—Police confiscated 1,299 undocumented firearms in the past three quarters this year in various police operations, data from Bicol police said Tuesday.

Police firearms statistics indicate that for January to October, police crack teams serving search and arrest warrants, police checkpoints, and police visibility has recovered 1,299 undocumented firearms, mostly handguns, according to Major Maria Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson.

The gun campaign has led to the arrest of 504 persons, of which ten were government personnel, an Army soldier, a policeman, and 492 civilians.

Some 264 cases against the gun holders were filed in court.

The data indicated that the 1,299 firearms were 33 percent higher than the 431 seized in last year’s operations.
