MANILA, Philippines — The country will have hot and humid weather as the easterlies prevail, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Monday.
Easterlies are hot winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, the weather agency said.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have fair to hot and humid weather with chances of isolated rains or thunderstorms.
As of 4 a.m., the northeast monsoon or amihan is not prevailing over the country.
“‘Yung amihan naman or northeast monsoon, hindi pa umiiral ngayong umaga pero pagsapit po ng hapon unti-unting lalakas ito,” Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
(The northeast monsoon is not prevailing this morning but by afternoon, it will gradually intensify.)
In anticipation of the northeast monsoon, Pagasa raised a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes.
“Sa ngayon, dahil po du’n sa anticipation ng pagbaba ng amihan dito sa extreme northern Luzon ay tinaas na natin ang gale warning dito po sa Batanes,” Estareja said, noting the waves could reach up to 4.5 meters starting this afternoon.
(Currently, due to anticipation of the amihan in extreme northern Luzon, we raised a gale warning in Batanes.)
Fisherfolk in Batanes are prohibited to venture out at sea.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country’s seaboards will have a slight to moderate sea condition with waves of 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
