MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday said it is investigating “a potential child abuse action” by a teacher in a now-viral Tiktok video where he was dancing and doing a certain pose to apparently attract the attention of his “cute” student.

DepEd said Secretary Leonor Briones instructed the regional director of DepEd Central Luzon to investigate the teacher for “insinuating” a possible child abuse action and “mete him with appropriate sanctions.”

The teacher was using the username “leobondoclopez.” He has changed his account to private.

DepEd said they do not tolerate “any forms of abuse” towards children.

“We remind our teachers and non-teaching personnel to always subject our words and actions, including our social media activities, to the highest degree of ethical and professional standards,” it said in a statement.

“As teachers and public servants, we must always champion a safe and nurturing learning environment for children, where physical, verbal, sexual, and other forms of abuse and discrimination are renounced,” it added.
