MANILA, Philippines — Senator and presidential aspirant Manny Pacquiao said Thursday that he plans to form a committee to select Cabinet members should he win the 2022 election.

He was asked who his potential Cabinet secretaries are at the Rotary Club Manila Weekly Membership meeting.

“Alam niyo po, istrikto kasi ako sa pagdating sa mga ganyan, sa pag-appoint ng mga Gabinete ko, mga taong kasama ko kasi may requirements po kasi ako palagi,” Pacquiao answered.

(As you know, I have a definite requirement when it comes to stuff like that, appointing my Cabinet, people who will be with me.)

“Ang gusto kong gawin, may improvement and development, progresibo ang isang department. We’re going to establish a panel for appointing Cabinet members at i-make sure natin lahat ng i-appoint natin ay serbisyo sa taumbayan ang importante, ang focus. Pagbabago sa ating bansa ang focus. Hindi ‘yung may mga vested interest,” he said.

(What I want to do is to have improvement and development, a progressive department. We will establish a panel for appointing Cabinet members to ensure that all appointees will focus on serving the public and change in our country. Not those with a vested interest.)

Pacquiao said that he would require his Cabinet secretaries to submit accomplishment reports every six months for evaluation.

“Kailangan mag-report ka sa’kin every six months. I-evaluate ko. Hindi lang ako magre-rely sa sinasabi mo sa akin. Syempre ang sasabihin mo sa’kin, ‘maganda, president, maganda, president,’ he explained.

(You need to report to me every six months. I will evaluate it. I will not just rely on what you will say to me. Of course, you’ll tell me, “things are good, president.”)

Pacquiao spoke before big businesses during the meeting, the first time since he declared his presidential bid.
