MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has endorsed the vice presidential bid of Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who is the father of her running mate, Vice Mayor Gian Sotto.

In an interview with ANC’s Karen Davila on Wednesday, Belmonte said Sotto was her “personal choice.”

“This is not official, this is my personal choice. Members of the (local party of Quezon City) are free to choose their own candidate, but I hope that the party supports the father of the presiding officer of the city council,” Belmonte said.

Belmonte said she has yet to pick her presidential candidate, adding that she is choosing aspirants whom she thinks are “best for the country and best for the city, someone who has the citizens at their heart, and someone who has no personal interest.”

Quezon City logged an estimated 1.2 million registered voters in the 2019 midterm elections.
