DepEd identifies 100 public schools for pilot of face-to-face classes on Nov. 15

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education on Wednesday identified 100 public schools that will participate in the limited face-to-face classes on November 15.
“Sa wakas, ipagpatuloy na natin ang ating limited face-to-face tulad ng napag-usapan at instruction ng president. Mag-umpisa tayo with 100 public schools, 20 private schools, at iilang mga international schools na may sarili naman silang mga patakaran,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said during the Laging Handa briefing.
(Finally, we will continue with our limited face-to-face classes like what was discussed and instructed by the President. We will start with 100 public schools, 20 private schools, and some international schools.)
“All set na for November 15. Nabuo na natin ‘yung 100 public schools at binubuo na ngayon ang 20 private schools,” she added.
(We’re all set for November 15. We completed the 100 public schools and we are still completing the 20 private schools.)
Selected private schools will start classes on November 22 after public schools have kicked off the pilot run as they are still under evaluation.
According to Education Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma, 57 private schools are currently under evaluation.
By November 12, the 20 private schools that will be permitted to join in the in-person classes will be announced.
Briones said these schools have secured consent from local government units and parents of the learners.
They have also inspected participating schools on their compliance to health standards to prevent COVID-19 transmission among students.
“Kami naman, for our part sa Department of Education, ini-inspect namin ang mga napipiling eskwelahan na kailangan handa ‘yung ating mga facilities, social distancing, may tubig, may gamot, malapit tayo sa mga health stations,” she said.
(For our part in the Department of Education, we inspect the readiness of the selected schools — their facilities, social distancing, availability of water and medicines, and its distance to health stations.)
“At saka finally, kailangan na may risk assessment na galing sa Department of Health. Ito ‘yung dagdag ng presidente sa kanyang mga requirements para maumpisahan na talaga itong ating face-to-face pilot sessions. So, all set na tayo,” Briones went on.
