LAOAG CITY—Ilocos Norte posted Tuesday zero COVID-19 cases and deaths as the spread of the virus continued to slow down in the past weeks, according to the provincial government.

The province also logged zero COVID-19 cases on Oct. 18 for the first time since it battled its worst COVID-19 surge in the past six months, driven by the Delta variant.

The weekly average of new COVID-19 cases started to plateau on Aug. 6 as it dropped from 274 to nine by Oct. 29.

Ilocos Norte’s average daily attack rate is also the lowest in the Ilocos region at 2.79 per 100,000 population, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

Quarantine curbs had been eased, with the entire province reverting to modified general community quarantine on Nov. 1.

The 23 towns and cities in the province are now out of the COVID-19 red zone, with this city and Banna town having at least 21 active COVID-19 cases.

The province has logged 18,800 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic struck, of which 150 remain active, 18,182 recovered, and 468 died.
