Pacquiao has 'very high IQ,' can beat rivals in debates, says Bato

Would you be surprised if Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa told you that Senator Pacquiao has a very high IQ?

MANILA, Philippines —Senator Manny Pacquiao may be mocked for his English skills, but he has an exceptionally “high IQ.”

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa attested to this on Tuesday when asked over CNN Philippines who he considers to be his toughest opponent in political debates.

Dela Rosa is running against Pacquiao, Senator Panfilo Lacson, former Senator Bongbong Marcos, Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, Vice President Leni Robredo and Labor leader Leody de Guzman in next year’s presidential race.

Dela Rosa considers all of Pacquiao’s rivals to be good and more prepared than he is, but he specifically emphasized that he could beat them if a debate were held.

“Like for example, baka sabihin ninyo weakest na kadebate si Senator Manny Pacquiao dahil nga pag binabasehan natin palagi yung educational attainment nung tao pero hindi mo ba alam na napakataas ng IQ ni Senator Pacquiao?”

(You’d probably say Senator Manny Pacquiao is the weakest opponent because we always based it on a person’s educational attainment but did you know that Senator Pacquiao has a very high IQ?)

“Napakagaling po nyan. Hindi po yan basta basta matatalo sa debate. Trust me, pag nandyan sa debate si Senator Pacquiao marami yang ilalampaso dyan. Mataas ang IQ nyan.”

(He’s very good. You can’t just beat him in a debate. Trust me, if he joins the debates, Senator Pacquiao can beat a lot of people. He has a high IQ)

“Siguro lang pagtatawanan natin minsan yung, pagtatawanan ng iba yung kanyang English pero English is just a language, hindi ‘yan measure ng katalinuhan ng tao. Ang katalinuhan ng tao name-measure sa IQ. And trust me, Sen. Pacquiao has a very high IQ,” he added.

(Some people may laugh at his English but English is just a language. That’s not the measure of a person’s intelligence. You measure one’s intelligence through his IQ. And trust me, Sen. Pacquiao has a very high IQ)

The Commission is planning to hold six debates—three for presidential candidates and three for those gunning for the vice presidency.
