Januario Basaca Laurel, known to many as “Ostic”, passed away last Sunday, October 31, 2021 in Cabuyao, Laguna, after suffering a stroke a few days prior. He was 72.
Ostic, uncle of INQUIRER.net product manager Micaela Tan, is fondly remembered for his jovial nature and ability to strike a conversation with virtually anyone. Ostic loved to joke around. He had a hearty appetite for all things good — good food, good stories, good life. He enjoyed family gatherings or meetings and always had something fun to share with everyone.
Ostic was also known to warmly welcome friends of his family inside his home. He was well-loved by his family, in-laws, nieces and nephews included.
Ostic’s magnum opus are his two daughters, Kaye Laurel-Hemedes and Vanessa Claire Laurel-Mulimbayan, whom he raised in love, affection, and common values alongside Nanette Veracruz Laurel, his wife of 42 years. He is survived by them.
Ostic’s wake is on November 2, 2021 at San Ramon Funeral Homes Sta Rosa, Laguna. Friends and family are requested to offer a prayer for his soul.
