MANILA, Philippines — Over a million indigenous peoples (IPs) have so far been vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).
Dr. Angelica Cachola, NCIP medical officer, said Saturday that a total of 1,072,452 IPs have been vaccinated against COVID based on the commission’s records.
“Sa ngayon, mayroon na po tayong 1,072,457 na nabakunahan na IPs ayon sa talaan ng ating Komisyon (So far, 1,072,457 IPs have already been vaccinated based on our records),” she said at the Laging Handa briefing.
Cachola also said that the NCIP, tasked to protect and promote the interest and well-being of the IPs, has been extending assistance to indigenous peoples who lost their livelihood during the pandemic.
A total of 58 million COVID-19 vaccine shots have been administered nationwide as of October 28. More than 26.8 million Filipinos are now fully vaccinated while 31 million have already received their first dose.
