TACLOBAN CITY––A 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook several areas in the provinces of Northern Samar and Samar at 1:39 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) traced the tremor’s epicenter to Catarman town in Northern Samar with a depth of 011 kilometers.
The quake was felt in Catarman, Mondragon, and Pambujan towns in Northern Samar at Intensity 4.
The towns of Laoang, Allen, San Isidro, Biri, and Lavezares, also in Northern Samar, felt the tremor at Intensity 3.
The cities of Catbalogan and Calbayog, and the town of Santa Margarita, all in Samar province, felt it at Intensity 2.
While they didn’t expect any damage due to the tremor, Phivolcs said it expected aftershocks.
