PH’s active COVID cases now only 49k; new cases at 3,000 for 2nd straight day

MANILA, Philippines — The country’s active cases of COVID-19 are now below 50,000 as the Department of Health (DOH) reports only over 3,000 new cases for the second straight day.

According to DOH, the active cases are now at 49,835, with additional 3,694 new cases of infection. Of the active cases, 80.2 percent are mild or asymptomatic. On Wednesday, the health department logged 3,218 new COVID infections.

The active tally represents 1.8 percent of all the 2,772,491 confirmed cases of the disease in the country.

Meanwhile, the DOH also reported 3,924 additional recoveries and 227 deaths. There are now 2,680,081 total recoveries and 42,575 total deaths from the tally.

A total of 8.6 percent of 50,755 individuals who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. Only one testing laboratory was not able to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

According to DOH, 50 percent of intensive care units, 38 percent of isolation beds, 35 ward beds, and 34 ventilators are currently being used.

The DOH also removed 52 duplicates, including 34 recoveries, from the case count and reclassified 158 recoveries as deaths after final validation.
