COVID death toll reaches 42,348 with 271 more fatalities

A total of 271 more COVID-19 patients have died, further pushing the country’s fatality count to 42,348 as of Wednesday, DOH said.

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 271 more COVID-19 patients have died, further pushing the country’s fatality count due to the disease to 42,348 as of Wednesday, according to data from the Department of Health (DOH).

The case fatality rate for COVID-19 in the country now stands at 1.53 percent out of the 2.76 million cases detected since the first case recorded in January last year.

The DOH reported 283 additional COVID-related deaths on Friday, 65 on Saturday, 208 on Sunday, 149 on Monday, and 135 on Tuesday. In total, over 3,800 deaths have so far been added to the fatality count this October.

There are still 50,152 patients who have yet to recover from the disease, or the so-called active cases. Of this number, 6.2 percent are suffering the severe form of COVID and 2.6 percent are critical.

The majority of the cases, or 73.4 percent are mild, 6.8 percent are asymptomatic, and 11.02 percent are moderately sick, according to DOH.

Meanwhile, on hospital occupancy, 51 percent of intensive care unit beds, 40 percent of isolation beds, 36 percent of ward beds, and 34 percent of ventilators are currently being utilized, according to the health agency.
