Cloudy skies, light rains in northern, central Luzon due to amihan

MANILA, Philippines — Northern and central Luzon will experience cloudy skies with light rains on Wednesday as amihan, locally known as northeast monsoon, remains the dominant weather system in the country, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)  reported.

“Ngayong araw po dahil sa amihan makakaranas ng bahagyang maulap at minsang maulap na kalangitan ang Northern and central Luzon. Mayroong mga pag-ambon sa Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Region, maging ang silangang bahagi ng Central Luzon,” senior weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a public weather forecast.

(Today because of amihan, we expect a partly cloudy to cloudy skies in Northern and Central Luzon, with light rains in Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Region, even eastern parts of Central Luzon.)

Pagasa is also monitoring two weather disturbances, though they are unlikely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Severe Tropical Storm Malou (international name) was monitored 1,800 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon with a maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph) with gustiness of up to 125 kph, moving north at 20 kph.

A tropical depression was also detected 445 kilometers west northwest of Kalayaan Islands in Palawan, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph, moving northwestward slowly, according to Pagasa.

Meanwhile, Pagasa raised gale warning in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and northern coast of Ilocos Norte which will experience rough sea condition with 2.8 to 4.5 meters of waves due to amihan.
