Gov’t war on drugs not perfect – Palace

MANILA, Philippines — The Duterte administration’s war on drugs is not perfect, but the lapses in its implementation should not discredit the entire program, Malacañang said on Monday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said what was important was that the government had been addressing problems that had cropped up in its conduct.

“Well, I think like any other government program, we cannot claim to be perfect. But what we are saying is the actions of a few rotten eggs should not affect the entire program,” he said at his regular press briefing.

Roque made the statement in response to Vice President Leni Robredo, who said the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) findings in its review of 52 drug killings confirmed that there were “many lapses” in the Duterte administration’s bloody antidrug campaign.

The DOJ has referred some cases to the National Bureau of Investigation for a deeper probe, and would continue to review other drug killings.
