PH's COVID-19 death toll hits 41,942 as 149 more die

MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 killed 149 more people that the nationwide death toll from the new coronavirus disease reached 41,942 as of October 25, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

The health agency also reported 4,405 new infections and that 57,763 individuals are still sick due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Recovered patients, meanwhile, stood at 2,661,602 on Monday as 7,561 more survived the illness.

The country’s total death cases account for 1.52 percent of the 2,761,301 confirmed COVID-19 infections since last year, the DOH noted.

Worldwide, COVID-19 has killed 4,948,928, according to Johns Hopkins University’s pandemic tracker.

The government has been imposing a five-tier alert level system to impose quarantine over a specific area. The new system is based on an area’s case data and healthcare utilization rates.

Currently, Negros Oriental and Davao Occidental are under COVID-19 Alert Level 4 while Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Siquijor, Davao City and Davao del Norte are under Alert Level 3, and Batangas, Quezon province, Lucena City, Bohol, Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Cebu province, Davao de Oro, Davao del Sur, and Davao Oriental are under Alert Level 2.
