MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in a bid to further secure transactions with TUPAd workers, is adding a quick response (QR) code in the workers’ identification cards (ID).
TUPAD or Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers “is a community-based package of assistance that provides emergency employment for displaced workers, underemployed and seasonal workers.”
During the Laging Handa briefing, DOLE Undersecretary Ana Dione said that Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has already ordered the strict implementation of the QR-coded ID scheme.
“Isa po diyan ‘yung aming ID ay nilagyan na po ng QR code. Lumabas na ho ‘yung aming memorandum sa aming mga regional offices at ongoing na, ini-implement na ho ‘yan,” Dione said.
(Our IDs will now have a QR code. The memorandum was released to our regional offices, and its implementation is ongoing.)
Dione noted that the QR code will ensure that the person claiming his/her pay is a TUPAD worker.
“Yung QR code ng ID ng mga beneficiary ay lalagyan natin para masigurado natin na ‘yung beneficiary mismo na nabigyan ng ID ay siya talaga ay nagtrabaho at siya talaga ang kukuha ng sahod,” she said.
(The QR code of the beneficiaries’ IDs will ensure that the ID holder is the one who rendered work and will claim his or her compensation.)
Social community projects, economic community projects, and agro-forestry community projects are the types of work that are supported under TUPAD.
According to DOLE, TUPAD workers will be paid 100 percent of the “prevailing private sector minimum wage in the area/locality.”
