3 fishermen nabbed for illegal fishing

THREE persons were arrested for dynamite fishing off the coast of barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City.

Another man was arrested by police for selling explosives believed to be intended for illegal fishing.

Jovencio Gestopa, Antonio Dela Cruz and Jenipher Laguna were arrested by members of the Task Force Kalikasan of the Lapu-Lapu police.

Police seized their boats  and 10 kilos of blasted fish.

In barangay Punta Engaño, Francisco Saludaga, 57, was arrested after selling 22 kilos of ammonium nitrate and blasting caps to a poseur buyer.

In Danao City, 65 boxes of sardinelle locally known as tamban were seized by  the Cebu Provincial Anti-Illegal Fishing Task Force.

The boxes of fish were found loaded on two Isuzu Elf trucks in barangay Sabang.

Oscar Barcenas, head of Team Eskina, said the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in Central Visayas confirmed that the fish worth P97,000 was  caught  using  dynamite.
