OLONGAPO CITY—About 100 more senior citizens in this city received their first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 on Wednesday (Oct. 20), the local government said.
The elderly residents from Barangay Mabayuan were the latest to benefit from the city’s vaccination-on-wheel program that aims to reach senior citizens who could not go to the major vaccination sites.
At least eight bedridden vaccine beneficiaries also benefited from a separate house-to-house vaccination, according to the Olongapo City Information Center.
Aside from the mobile vaccine, residents in the same village were also offered free X-ray service courtesy of the United States Agency for International Development.
The city’s mobile vaccination program was launched on Oct. 8 and deployed to villages to help the city achieve herd immunity.
So far, at least 114,189 eligible residents in the city have been inoculated against the viral disease, and 40,133 were already fully vaccinated.
The city needs to vaccinate 70 percent or 182,000 of its 260,000 to achieve herd immunity.
